Tim Stearns

Instructor

Hello.  My name is Tim and I joined Patten’s Commercial Driver Training in the spring of 2023. I am a United States Marine and served God, Family and Country from 1976-1980 acquiring the rank of Sergeant. Upon serving in the military, I had a successful career for more than 10 years, becoming certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence as an Automotive Technician. Upon becoming an ASE Certified Technician, I furthermore obtained my New Hampshire automotive inspection license from the State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Division of Motor Vehicles.

After a rewarding career in the automotive industry, I felt the need to return to duty however this time, serving the citizens of the State of New Hampshire as a full-time law enforcement officer.  Having successfully graduated from the 105th police academy, I joined the University of New Hampshire Police Department where I fulfilled the duties of both a patrol and field training officer for more than two years. The experience as a UNH police officer eventually led me to joining the New Hampshire State Police where I acquired the rank of Trooper First Class prior to retiring in 2016. My assigned duties included but were not limited to enforcing NH criminal & motor vehicle laws and NH’s administrative rules. I also fulfilled the responsibilities of a field training officer for new troopers and furthermore was assigned to the New Hampshire State Police Motorcycle and Aviation Units.

I obtained my Class-A, commercial driver license more than 5 years ago and has driven full-time professionally both truck-tractors and straight trucks hauling a wide range of commodities and construction equipment before joining Patten’s Commercial Driver Training as an instructor. Since becoming a team member, I have attended several in-service industry driven training courses and strive every day to share my knowledge and experiences with our students and industry partners.
